There are two main types of industrial by-product gypsum in terms of production, desulfurization gypsum and phosphogypsum.
Desulfurization gypsum, abbreviated as FGD gypsum, is a by-product of the flue gas desulfurization process, which mainly comes from coal-fired power plants. FGD gypsum has high purity, stable composition and low content of harmful impurities. With the upgrading of post-treatment process, FGD gypsum has basically no sulfide residue and reflects the high strength of the finished product. Its appearance is yellowish in color and its performance is no less than that of natural gypsum, and it is mainly used in the production of gypsum board, gypsum putty and self-leveling.
Phosphogypsum is a by-product produced in the wet phosphoric acid process, and its component is mainly calcium sulfate dihydrate. Compared with FGD gypsum, phosphogypsum contains slightly more impurities and has an acidic Ph value, and the strength of the finished product is also slightly lower. Phosphogypsum is mainly gray in color, so it has better color stability and is mainly used in gypsum plaster and self-leveling products.
